Privacy Policy

Last updated: February 21, 2026

1. Introduction

PedalPlayers is an independent editorial website about guitar effects pedals. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, why, and what we do with it.

The short version: we collect very little. There are no user accounts, no tracking cookies, and no advertising on this site. The only personal data we hold is what you give us voluntarily — a newsletter signup or a contact form message.

2. What We Collect

Newsletter signups: If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and first name. This is processed and stored by our email service provider, Kit (formerly ConvertKit). Not on our own servers.

Contact form submissions: If you get in touch through the site, we receive whatever information you include in your message. Contact form data is not permanently stored on our systems.

Anonymous analytics: We use Umami, a privacy-focused, self-hosted analytics tool hosted on our VPS with Hostinger. It does not use cookies, cannot identify individual visitors, and collects no personal data. We see only aggregate patterns. Page views, referral sources, and general usage trends.

That’s the complete list. We don’t collect anything else.

3. How We Use Your Data

Your email address and name are used to send you the newsletter you signed up for and to respond to messages you’ve sent us. Nothing more.

Anonymous analytics data helps us understand which content is useful and how the site is performing, so we can make it better.

4. Who Has Access to Your Data

We don’t sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone for marketing purposes.

Your data is only processed by:

  • Kit (ConvertKit): Stores and manages newsletter subscriptions, sends emails on our behalf. Kit processes data in the US under Standard Contractual Clauses and a Data Processing Agreement for GDPR compliance.
  • Hostinger: Hosts our analytics server. Only anonymous, non-personal analytics data is stored here.

Beyond that, we would only disclose personal data if required by law or court order, or in the unlikely event of a business sale or merger (with privacy protections maintained).

5. No Affiliate Links or Advertising

PedalPlayers does not use affiliate links, sponsored content, paid placements, or advertising of any kind. No third-party advertiser or affiliate network has access to your data through this site, because none exist here. Our full position is set out in our Editorial Policy.

6. Your Rights

You have the right to know what personal data we hold about you and to control how it’s used.

Specifically, you can:

  • Access a copy of any personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Delete your data, or simply unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time
  • Restrict how we process your data
  • Transfer your data to another service
  • Object to our processing of your data
  • Withdraw consent at any time

These rights apply regardless of where you’re based. To exercise any of them, contact us using the details below. We’ll respond within 30 days.

If you have a complaint about how we handle your data, we’d like to hear from you directly. But you also have the right to contact your local data protection authority.

7. Data Security

Your data is transmitted over SSL encryption. Newsletter data is secured by Kit’s infrastructure. Analytics data is anonymous by design. There’s nothing to protect because nothing identifiable is collected. We limit access to any personal data to the minimum necessary.

No system is perfectly secure, and we can’t guarantee absolute security, but given how little data we collect, the surface area is small.

8. Data Retention

Newsletter data: Stored by Kit for as long as you remain subscribed. Unsubscribe at any time and your data will be removed.

Contact form data: Used to respond to your message, then not retained permanently on our systems.

Analytics data: Anonymous and aggregated. Contains no personal identifiers and cannot be linked to any individual.

9. Children’s Privacy

PedalPlayers is not aimed at children under 16. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If we discover that a child has provided personal data, we’ll delete it promptly.

10. Third-Party Links

The site links to external websites. This policy covers PedalPlayers only. We’re not responsible for the privacy practices of other sites.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll update the date at the top of this page. For significant changes, we may notify newsletter subscribers directly.
